What Big Eyes You Have: A Cultural History of the Wolf
From prehistoric cave artifacts and images to present-day television ads, Debra explores the depiction of the wolf through text and images while considering the values and attitudes that helped to shape them. She will also discuss the way these images and texts impart social, cultural, and scientific information not only about wolves but also about humans and human behavior.

Debra Mitts-Smith lives on a 40-acre farm with her husband, three dogs, too many cats, and koi. She has a PhD and two master’s degrees from the University of Illinois. Her passion is animals, most especially wolves, and ravens. She is a regular contributor to International Wolf and the author of Picturing the Wolf in Children’s Literature (Routledge, 2010). She is currently working on a cultural history of the wolf.
