Volunteer FAQs
Do all volunteer opportunities take place on Park Service land?
While some activities primarily take place on NPS land, the nature of our co-managed partnership allows us to expand beyond the federal borders and serve in projects and programs throughout the greater St. Croix Watershed.
How can I see dates and details for available opportunities?
Once volunteers submit an interest form, they are able to login to My Impact to view and sign up for upcoming opportunities. After volunteers attend New Volunteer Orientation, and other role specific training sessions, they will be able to view additional opportunities that they become qualified for. Interested volunteers can visit this page to see a list of the upcoming orientation and training sessions or public events that are available for anyone to sign-up for.
I just want to do a one-time cleanup, do I need to attend orientation?
While we encourage all new volunteers entering the program to attend the orientation session, it is not required in order to sign up for a one-time event.
Are there opportunities to meet other volunteers?
Yes, building community among our volunteers and staff is important to us! Be on the lookout for our volunteer celebration event in the fall, and our volunteer outing & enrichment opportunities throughout the year. These may include events such as guided hikes or presentations from staff for volunteers in any role to come together, build community, and learn something new.
I am under 18, can I still volunteer?
While several of our recurring volunteer roles do have an age requirement of 18 years or older, our cleanup events are open to and great for all ages. All youth must have a parent/legal guardian sign a consent form in order to participate. A parent or chaperone must also be present during service in most cases.
Can I volunteer with my work, school, scout, or community group?
Due to staffing, time of year, group size, or availability of projects and supplies, we may not be able to accommodate every group request. Most events occur on weekdays between the hours of 9am-5pm, though may be some flexibility for Saturdays and evenings. At this time, our greatest need for group projects is for invasive buckthorn removal in St. Croix Falls, WI. This activity can accommodate 5-50 participants, and can be done almost any time of year. Volunteers of all ages may participate in buckthorn removal, as long as they are able to do the activity safely and have signed parental/guardian consent.
