Learn to Paddle
Join Wild Rivers Conservancy and Washington County Parks to learn the basics of kayaking so you can get out and enjoy the water this summer!
Join Wild Rivers Conservancy for an introduction to kayaking at Washington County’s Square Lake Park. Together with a small group of your peers and two instructors, you’ll learn the basics to get out on the water and safely experience your local parks and waterways from a kayak.
We’ll start on dry land going over important safety lessons, kayak paddle strokes, and techniques to enter a kayak. Once you’re on the water, we’ll start close to shore to practice your new skills before we head out as a group to explore the shores of Square Lake. And before you know it, you’ll be ready to explore the lake at your own pace. Thank you to Washington County for partnering to make this event possible.
Suitable for ages 12 and up. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. No previous paddling experience required. All equipment including life jacket, kayak, and paddle will be provided.
