Snapshot Day 2021
August 21, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
FREE
Join fellow water lovers in a search for aquatic invasive species (AIS)
during this year’s statewide Snapshot Day event!
You can help protect Wisconsin’s rivers and lakes from these invasive plants and animals that negatively impact habitat, wildlife, recreation, and health. This event is coordinated in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, UW Extension, over 20 partners, and YOU! You’ll be teaming up with volunteers across the state, as well as volunteers in Minnesota during a sister event (Starry Trek 2021).
Information collected by volunteers like you will help with statewide monitoring and response efforts. No experience is required, and this free event is great for families.
How it works:
During the training at the Acreage, you’ll learn how to check for invasive species that can harm waterways. At some sites, friendly waters will beg you to wade in to get a better look, while at other sites volunteers will be asked to simply search from the safety of the shore with binoculars and rakes. Help from the shoreline or by wading into the water! And be sure to dress for the weather.
