Riverway After Dark: Astronomy Walk

Late fall and winter bring darker and clearer skies ideal for stargazing. Join Conservancy Naturalist Jeremiah and National Park Service Ranger Dan as we hit the trail and look to the sky on a guided night wander complete with telescope stations, astronomy activities, and tips on backyard stargazing. We’ll explore the open prairie at Standing Cedar’s Englewood property – perfect for unobstructed views of the constellations and more. Embrace the season and learn more about what’s far beyond our watershed!
Hike Length: 1.3 miles
Hike difficulty: Good for beginners
Features or other notes of interest: Beautiful open prairie with unobstructed views of the night sky. Remnants of a former ski area can be found along the trails.
Recommended items to bring/ wear:
- Long pants
- Upper body layers like a long-sleeved shirt and jacket (moisture-wicking fabric is always a plus)
- Shoes or boots with traction
- Hat or beanie
- Gloves or mittens
- Adequate water
- Flashlight or headlamp
- Binoculars (optional)
